Flexible learning day plans and goals: Please continue to prepare "Wexford Circle" and "A Viking's Tale" for our May 4th Spring Concert. In addition, please keep "Royal Promenade" prepared. All students can warm-up using the D Major Scale ascending and descending in various patterns (staccato, 2-note slurs, 4-note slurs, hooked bowing, etc.) Any questions? Please email me!

- Welcome to 5th Grade District Orchestra!
We meet twice a week- once for an in-school rehearsal, and also once after-school at Haverford High School.

IN-SCHOOL REHEARSALS
5th Grade String Students meet as one group together (violin, viola, cello, and bass) at each elementary school
Please note the days lessons will take place at your elementary school
Tentatively the 2019-2020 school year (will be confirmed in September):
Mondays- Chestnutwold (First in-school rehearsal will be.. September 9th)
Tuesdays- Lynnewood (First in-school rehearsal will be.. September 10th)
Wednesdays- Chatham Park (First in-school rehearsal will be.. September 11th)
Thursdays- Manoa (First in-school rehearsal will be.. September 12th)
Fridays- Coopertown (First in-school rehearsal will be.. September 13th)
AFTER-SCHOOL REHEARSALS
5th Grade string students from all five elementary schools come together at Haverford High School
Tentatively the 2019-2020 school year, these rehearsals will be held from 3:30- 4:30PM on TUESDAYS at the H.S.
Our first after-school rehearsal will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th
5th Grade Band/Orchestra students will be dismissed and take a bus around 3:10 at the elementary schools to the H.S.
After the rehearsal, students can either take the bus, parent pick-up, or walk home (if walking distance).
You should receive bus passes through mail. Please be sure to discuss with your child what they will plan to do.
Please note that 5th grade BAND students will be dropped off at the middle school for rehearsal this year. District Strings will still be at the H.S.Students are required to attend all rehearsals. I ask that if there is a conflict or if a student is sick from school that you contact me by email so I am aware and can mark the absence accordingly.
TENTATIVE CONCERT DATES (will be confirmed in September)
Our first concert, Winter Concert, is scheduled for
Tuesday, December 17th, 2019, 7PM @ Haverford H.S.
Our second concert, String Night, is scheduled for
Tuesday, February 18th, 2020, 7PM @ Haverford H.S.
Our last concert is scheduled for
Monday, May 4th, 2020, 7PM @ Haverford H.S.Student arrival for all concerts is 6:15PM for tuning and warm-ups. If anything changes you will be notified immediately by email.

For Parents/Guardians of violin/viola students. If your child plans to continue playing their instrument for a long time please consider investing in a violin/viola shoulder rest. This accessory will help support the instrument better than a sponge rest and help your child feel most comfortable when playing. I recommend the KUN brand or Everest shoulder rest brand.
